Prof Neeru Gupta

Chief of Glaucoma
University of Toronto

Professor Gupta is Chief of Glaucoma at the University of Toronto, the Dorothy Pitts Chair of Ophthalmology and Vision Science at St. Michael’s Hospital, and is appointed to the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. She is currently Vice President of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), serves the Board of Governors of the World Glaucoma Association as Officer of External Affairs, and is a member of the Global Advisory Committee for the AAO.

Past service contributions include President of the Canadian Glaucoma Society, Chair of the Glaucoma Section for the Association for Vision and Research in Ophthalmology, and Chair of Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Glaucoma Society.

Dr. Gupta directs a translational research team that has published seminal scientific articles on visual system injury in glaucoma and also discovered the lymphatic circulation in the eye. The work has been recognized with awards from the Glaucoma Research Society of Canada, the World Glaucoma Association and the New York Academy of Medicine. She serves as an Editor of the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, the Journal of Glaucoma and Investigative Ophthalmology and Vision Science. She is founder and CEO of Canada’s first non-profit Human Eye Biobank for Research.

Dr. Gupta’s research contributions have been recognized by election to the Glaucoma Research Society and her contributions to eye health, education and research has been recognized by election to the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis.
