Dr. LIANG Yuanbo. Professor and Director in the Clinical and Epidemiological Eye Research Center, Wenzhou Medical University. Deputy director of Glaucoma Unit of Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University. Dr. Liang is currently the member and the secretary of Standing Committee of Blindness Prevention, Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology; and the vice president of Evidence-Based Ophthalmology Group, Chinese Medical Doctor Association; and member of the Youth Commissary of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society, member of Chinese Glaucoma Society. He has published more than 180 articles in peer review journals. He is a recipient of many awards, ARVO travel grant, excellent young doctors by CCOS, Qianjiang Scholar Award by Zhejiang Province Gov, and Zhejiang Innovating Talents Awards.
He has 10 years’ experience in population-based studies and clinical trials. He had been the project manager of the Handan eye study, a well-recognized comprehensive population-based eye study conducted in rural China. He is also the principal investigator of two longitudinal studies: Beijing Myopia Progression Study, Wenzhou Glaucoma Progression Study. As a major investigator, he participated in 8 RCTs. He started a large-scale Glaucoma Screening Program in March 2014, which to date has screened 32,000 elderly persons and detected 600 new cases of glaucoma. The goal of this program is to double the detection rate of glaucoma through screening and patient education. He developed a non-bleb dependent procedure integrating canaloplasty into trabeculectomy and glaucoma monkey model based on Schlemm canal blockage.
